NCB Now: Healthy care for children

1 min read
The NCB Healthy Care Programme, set up in 2001 with funding from the then Department for Education and Skills, has been highly successful in improving the health and wellbeing of looked-after children and young people.

The Healthy Care Programme developed the National Healthy Care Standard(NHCS) and audit tool to provide a multi-agency framework for strategicpartnership working, policy and practice improvement, focused on theparticipation of children and young people in care and their carers.

The programme also provides a range of tools including a monthlynewsletter, research and policy briefings.

Currently, local Healthy Care partnerships are working with children, young people and carers to ensure their needs for good, healthy care aremet. We want children and young people in care to have good corporateparenting to improve health and wellbeing, including encouragement andsupport to develop their talents and interests through creativeactivities and play. Creative methods include projects, workshops orsessions that use video, drama, dance, music, arts and crafts andphotography.
