NCB Now: Improving health while in custody

Key policy makers and practitioners from the secure estate, health, education and social care sectors met on 11 October to discuss the feasibility of developing a programme to support the promotion of young people's health and wellbeing in custody.

The seminar was organised by NCB to share and discuss emerging findingsfrom Healthier Inside, the first national project focused on improvingthe health and wellbeing of under 18s in custody.

"A key recommendation from the first stage is a more co-ordinatedapproach," said Ellie Lewis, project development officer, NCB. "Theseminar provided an opportunity for key stakeholders to discuss how bestto achieve this."

Speakers included Hazel Banks, head of the women's team and juvenilegroup at HM Prison Service.
