The bi-annual Healthier Inside magazine highlights the many ways inwhich secure settings can help to improve the lives of young people incustody, offering ideas and inspiration to help the design and deliveryof quality services.
Jo Butcher, assistant director - children's development at NCB, said:"Young people in custody are particularly vulnerable and need a lot ofhelp to lead healthy, positive lives. The time they spend in custody isa valuable window of opportunity to help them turn their lives aroundand reduce the risks of future offending.
"Like all young people, those in custody are experts in their own lifeexperiences and can help us find the solutions. They may have lost theirright to freedom, but they still have a right to express themselves andarticipate in decisions that affect them. Most have an insight into whatgot them into trouble in the first place and what they need to do to getout of it again. They already have many of the answers, we just need tolisten and help them to make changes happen."
