NCB Now: Half of councils sign charter on disability

Every Disabled Child Matters (EDCM), based at NCB, is delighted to announce that 76 councils with responsibility for disabled children's services in England have signed its Local Authority Charter.

EDCM is challenging every local authority in England to sign up to the charter. While one in five children in every authority are disabled, only six per cent of families with disabled children get any special support from the government.

Christine Lenehan, director of the Council for Disabled Children, said: "It is shocking that the majority of families still have to fight to get the services they need. Signing our campaign charter is an ideal way for local authorities and primary care trusts to demonstrate their commitment to families."
