"We know while many governors may feel nervous about SRE, they are determined to get it right," said Anna Martinez, co-ordinator of the Sex Education Forum.
The conference marks the latest stage in a project carried out by the Forum in partnership with the National Association of Governors and Managers, to support governors in delivering effective SRE.
It follows the launch in December 2003 of a guidance and training pack for school governors.
Speakers at the conference included the pack's authors, Gill Frances, NCB's director of children's development, and PSHE consultant Paula Power.
Also speaking was Melody Dougan of the National Association of Governors and Managers, who commented: "The links between health and well-being and effective learning are emerging from research as well as practice. There is no better time for developing effective sex and relationships education policy and practice than now."
