1 min read
More than 50 people had the opportunity to explore ways of opening up governance structures to young people at a ground-breaking seminar held by NCB on Wednesday 20 September.

Although a key feature of the Every Child Matters agenda is involvingchildren and young people in governance and leadership, manyorganisations find it difficult to recruit, retain and effectivelyengage young people in these roles.

NCB's popular seminar - the first of its kind - challenged some of themyths associated with participation and allowed delegates to hear how itworks in practice.

Focusing on the British Youth Council and NCB's experiences and modelsof working with young people, delegates were able to discuss ideas andconsider what makes participation effective.

Janine Young, head of participation at NCB, said: "The participants toldus that they appreciated the chance to share experiences and concernsabout involving children in adult structures, and went away with ideasto develop this work."
