NCB Now: Ensuring every child matters

2 mins read
Every Child Matters has transformed the framework for delivering services for children and young people. Since then, the government has called for more voluntary and community organisations to engage in, and help deliver, the national agenda.

The VCS Engage programme was set up in 2006 by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, to help third sector organisations respond to the challenges of this new and changing environment. The overall aim of the programme was to increase the capacity of voluntary and community sector organisations to operate within the new framework, and play a key role in making Every Child Matters a reality.

Over the past 18 months, more than 1,500 voluntary and community sector organisations have benefited from training programmes, mentoring support packages and other resources delivered through VCS Engage.

More than 600 organisations across England have attended training in Every Child Matters, and this has had a significant impact in raising awareness of the new framework throughout the sector.
