Alan Johnson praised the work of NCB especially in relation to itsefforts to improve the services for children in public care. He talkedabout the positive work of the partnership between NCB and theDepartment for Education and Skills in creating a National Centre forExcellence in Residential Childcare. This major collaborative initiativewill help to improve standards of practice and outcomes for children andyoung people in residential care across the country.
The minister also talked about NCB's work on an amendment to theChildcare Bill, which was agreed by both Houses at the end of June thisyear. Throughout the Bill's passage through Parliament, NCB has beenworking to ensure that the principle of listening to young children isembedded in the legislation by ensuring local authorities consult youngchildren in the development of early childhood services.
