Baby P's death provoked an unprecedented media and political storm, which raised questions about the adequacy of the child protection system, the state of professional practice across all disciplines, and the impact of policy changes on frontline practice. In response, the government ordered a series of reviews and initiatives, most notably asking Lord Laming to review whether the reforms brought in following his inquiry into the death of Victoria Climbie are being implemented systematically.
The conference will be an opportunity for practitioners, policymakers and managers to discuss the effects of the Baby P tragedy on current social work practice and examine the findings and implications of the Laming Review.
