NCB Now: Chair announced at Play Council AGM

1 min read
Helen Goodman, chief executive of the charity Play Matters, was elected as the new chair of the Children's Play Council, based at NCB, at the council's annual general meeting on 11 November.

Helen succeeds Adrian Voce who is the council's new director. "The wealth of experience which Helen brings to the council will be invaluable during this exciting and challenging time for the children's play sector," Voce said.

Speakers at the annual general meeting included Stephen Dunmore, chief executive of the Big Lottery Fund, who spoke about the fund's vision for the future and what it could mean for children's play.

While confirming his understanding that the Government will no longer be in a position to guarantee a commitment of Lottery funding, Dunmore was optimistic about the outcome for children's play, saying: "we do expect a commitment to ensuring that children's play receives at least 200 million from across the Lottery distributors by, say, 2009." He stated that, although the Government is unlikely to want to ringfence funds, the fund itself may establish programmes and he encouraged the sector to ensure that children's play remains a priority by responding to the fund's second phase of consultation.
