NCB Now: A focus on drugs prevention

1 min read
An alliance of children's charities is working to spread the message that timely and holistic services are needed to prevent drug-related harm among children and young people. Jo Butcher explains more about the project.

A desire for children to be treated like children, despite their drug misuse, led to the Children's Charities Working Together on Drug Prevention project being established in 2005, with funding from the Department of Health.

The shared goal of the five charities in the alliance was to prevent drug-related harm among vulnerable young people, by pooling their knowledge in practical projects at a local level and implementing a programme of policy development, communications and dissemination activities across England.

Co-ordinated by NCB, the childrens' charities - Barnardo's, The Children's Society, NCH and NSPCC - have all run 18-month projects to demonstrate the valuable contribution that the voluntary sector can make in helping improve the lives of vulnerable young people.
