It hasn't been the happiest of anniversaries for Fiona Blacke. The National Youth Agency's (NYA's) chief executive has just passed her first year in charge as the agency goes through a rocky patch and prepares to get a little leaner. Seven staff face redundancy at its Leicester offices and several others are set to have their jobs outsourced. People affected include those who have served more than 20 years - their entire working lives - at The NYA.
The cuts are intended to claw back an annual overspend of £300,000 and apply to support workers rather than delivery staff. Job losses will affect events, publications, facilities and finance, while discussions with outside suppliers are taking place to handle some of the functions. The proposals will be ratified at a board meeting on 27 August.
