National Youth Agency: Service user engagement is key for successful positive activities

1 min read
The Centre for Excellence and Outcomes in Children and Young People's Services (C4EO) has published three research reviews on the topics of reducing alcohol consumption by young people, the impact of targeted youth support and engaging young people in positive activities.

The National Youth Agency undertook the research review into engaging young people in positive activities. It found that service user engagement holds the key in all aspects of provision, including design and promotion, for successful engagement in positive activities and targeted youth support programmes.

The research review into reducing alcohol consumption by young people, undertaken by the Institute of Education, identified a number of programmes that deliver positive results for young people.

The findings identified that alcohol programmes that are promising are those that work with families to improve familial relationships, help pupils learn about alcohol and how to resist alcohol and drugs, improve the quality of young people's experience of school, and provide enjoyable out-of-school activities that impact on their sense of achievement.
