National Youth Agency: Research explores young people's attitudes towards benefits system

2 mins read
New research from the National Youth Agency has been released at the Local Authorities Research and Intelligence Association's annual conference.

This research explored the relationship between the benefits system, support workers and young people who are, or were at risk of being, not in education, employment or training (Neet). It focused on the values and beliefs of young people and support workers with regard to benefits and how this influences behaviour.

It also looked at the key factors - the trigger points and barriers - which move young people on to, and conversely off, benefits.

A secondary aim was to develop and implement an innovative approach to gathering qualitative data from a diverse range of young people, including those with learning disabilities and young parents, through the use of social stories.
