National Youth Agency: Research explores views on volunteering and the recession

The National Youth Agency has been working with youth specialists Dubit Research on a project exploring volunteering and the recession.

The project set out to discover if young people are more likely to volunteer now than before the recession and what their motivations for volunteering are. It also looked at whether there are sufficient opportunities to volunteer and what young people's experiences over the past 12 months have been - what have been the barriers and the enablers.

The research, a companion piece to the study of volunteering organisations' recession experiences, reported on these pages recently, explored if there is a greater awareness of accreditation and the role of volunteering as part of a pathway to employment. It also looked at the wider expectations young people have of their volunteering and what organisations provide.
