Project: Nacro Air League Flying Scheme
Funding: From the Learning and Skills Council and the European Social Fund
Aim: To re-engage Neet young people through flying lessons.
Crime reduction charity Nacro is giving a group of Derbyshire teenagers flying lessons as part of a project to re-engage young people who have dropped out of mainstream education.
Many of the 16- to 18-year-olds on the Nacro Air League Flying Scheme have achieved few or no qualifications in the past, so the course is designed to boost their confidence and skills through a practical approach to learning. Over six weeks, the group learns to fly glider aircrafts at RAF Syerston. They also take part in team-building challenges, learn about the RAF and are taught basic literacy and numeracy skills.
