Eight young people and two employees from Nacro's youth inclusion project in Kensington in Liverpool flew out last week to take part in the three-day Foca 08 festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The event, organised by football body Fifa and website Streetfootballworld, brings together 12 Balkan teams and 12 teams from the rest of Europe for a five-a-side tournament.
The Nacro players were chosen because of the dedication each of them has shown to turning their own lives around and helping other young people through peer mentoring.
Paul Hurford, Nacro's football development worker in Kensington, said: "When they started at Nacro's youth inclusion project they were identified as being at risk of getting into crime. Now they all act as role models and mentors to the other young people who come to Nacro."
