Aim To improve relations between police and young people
Newly recruited police in Suffolk are carrying out voluntary placements on a training project run by crime reduction charity Nacro in order to improve relations with young people in the area.
The placements are based at a training centre in Ipswich, teaching vocational skills such as mechanics, retail, IT and employability skills to young people who are not in education, employment or training and may be at risk of offending.
It is hoped that the scheme will help break down barriers between teenagers and local police.
Four officers have now completed their week-long placements and Nacro staff are satisfied with the impact the scheme has had on both the young people and police, so they have decided to extend it.
