My life: Roper Peckham-Cooper, 17, Kent

1 min read
I went to school that morning as I always did. The day passed uneventfully, but as I left school, my father was at the gate. He told me my mother had been killed in a road accident. My life changed in five seconds; my world was destroyed, for I loved my mother beyond words.

Me and my sisters were numb. We all decided in our own ways to turn thisindescribable loss into a testament of achievement for our mother. Fromthat day we have all worked to make our mark on life in her memory.

I needed to do something my mother would always be remembered by andfor. I set off from Land's End to solo cycle to John o'Groats. Elevendays and 907 miles later I braked to a halt. I received a cup for beingthe youngest solo cycle rider to cover the distance at the age of14.

For this and eradicating bullying in my school, the headmaster nominatedme for a Diana Award, which I received in 2005. I was made a DianaAmbassador in 2006.
