Speakers from the Muslim Council of Britain, the Muslim Association of Britain and Young Muslim UK joined Ken Livingstone to speak out on issues such as Islamophobia, racist bullying and low educational achievement.
A spokesperson for the Muslim Council of Britain, Inayat Bunglawala, said: "London is home to 700,000 Muslims, around 10 per cent of the population.
However, there is a disproportionately high number of young people from Pakistani and Bangladeshi backgrounds who are underachieving at school, with knock-on effects on unemployment and crime.
"Eight per cent of UK prisoners are also Muslim, and there has been an increase in Islamophobia after 9/11. It's crucial to work out a strategy to address Islamophobia, just like anti-semitism. One outcome of the meeting will be for a working group to feed Muslim concerns to the GLA."
