Looked-after children: Bin bag campaign gains momentum

More than 50 local authorities have given their support to an England-wide campaign to stop children in care having to move their belongings in bin bags when transferred between placements.

The This Is Not A Suitcase campaign by A National Voice, an organisationrun by young people who are or have been in care, has persuaded 52councils to back its charter.

Maxine Wrigley, the organisation's national co-ordinator, said she washoping to get half of England's 150 councils signed up before theorganisation's third bin bag fashion show on 27 October.

"We will use that event to praise the councils who have pledged to stopusing bin bags," she said. "We've also found that some councils thinkwe've received their pledge when we haven't so I would urge councils whothink they've signed up to contact us again."
