Log on to ... Anti-bullying

3 mins read
Young people who are being bullied can feel like there's no way out of the situation. Tim Burke looks at the range of online resources and advice available to help youth workers empower young people and tackle the problem head on when it arises.

There's a lot of information on the web about bullying, making it difficult to separate the good from the bad. A good starting point for youth workers is www.teachernet.gov.uk/publications where you can download the document Safe from Bullying in Youth Activities. This Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) publication takes you through what bullying is, why it must be tackled within youth activities and the elements that make up an effective strategy to prevent it from happening. This is part of a range of publications on the theme.

Also worth downloading is Safe from Bullying: Training Resources, which has guidance for staff teams on anti-bullying policies and practical resources, such as case studies with notes that explore possible interventions, a guide to supporting parents, and a checklist for effective practice.
