Local Authorities: Disabled young neglected by plans

Off the Radar, an analysis of 20 plans conducted by the Every Disabled Child Matters consortium of four organisations working with disabled children, shows that three out of four local authorities failed to consult disabled young people and their parents when drawing up the plans.

Only five of the plans included any analysis of the population of disabled children and young people in the various local authority areas.

A report studying 75 plans is also due out from the National Foundation for Educational Research. An interim report studying 50 plans found only half made reference to youth work and Youth Matters (YPN, 13-19 September, p5).
