Letters: SUPPORT NON-TEACHING STAFF

1 min read Letters
We welcome Ofsted's findings on the influence of teaching assistants and learning mentors in schools (cypnow.co.uk, 26 January).

Never before has there been such clear evidence to demonstrate the impact that workforce reform is having on pupils' learning and standards in schools. The Training and Development Agency for Schools believes that the report rightly highlights the importance for teachers and support staff to have the necessary skills and knowledge, and for each member of the workforce to be deployed to best effect in the classroom.

It is a requirement for all newly qualified teachers to be trained in working with support staff. This has been integrated into teachers' professional standards. You cannot now become a qualified teacher without demonstrating that you can work with others to support teaching and learning.
