Letters: Cuts are discriminatory

1 min read Letters
We all know that cuts have to be made, but no one expected child benefit to act as a vehicle for discriminating against parents' care preferences for their children (cypnow.co.uk, 4 October).

On a certain reasonable family income, if you look after the children at home while your partner goes to work, you'll lose your child benefit - despite shouldering the childcare costs yourself in-house. Yet, if both parents are in full-time paid work with as much as double the amount of household income, and who may even benefit from taxpayer-subsidised childcare, they will continue to be eligible for child benefit. There has to be a better way.
