Letters: Cuts are far from fair

1 min read
It is tragic that at the same time as national Youth Work Week, many local authorities are making plans for huge reductions in their budget.

There will be budget reductions of well over 60 per cent in at least two South West authorities that are nationally renowned for the quality of their youth work and the proposed cuts will be devastating for young people, communities and the dedicated staff whose experience and skills will be lost to the area. We all know cuts are necessary, but while further education and support for getting into work are also being cut substantially, the impact on young people of such enormous cuts to youth work are far from fair.

Gill Millar, regional youth work adviser, Learning South West
