- Spell out funding for disabled

The uncertainty about NHS funding for disabled children (CYP Now, 18-25 June) puts into sharp focus how well the health service is able to support small groups of people with high levels of need.

When the Department for Children, Schools and Families made £430m available for services for disabled children and children with life-limiting conditions, it stated how much money was in the pot and how much each local authority would be getting. The Department of Health's inability to give primary care trusts the same clarity is leading to confusion and inertia.

The forthcoming child health strategy must spell out the specific funding allocated for disabled children and children with palliative care needs, not just an overall figure. Without this clarity, vulnerable children will continue to miss out on support they so desperately need.
