LETTERS: Redundant apprentices.

1 min read Letters
My son was looking forward to completing his electrical apprenticeship in two months' time, when out of the blue, he was made redundant. No help, just "well, we've got no work".

He is trying to complete his NVQ and AM2 qualifications without being in a firm, which is a long shot. The funny thing is all we hear about is taking on apprentices. I don't understand, do you?

Hassockfield restraint worry

The Howard League for Penal Reform is concerned that the Ofsted report on Hassockfield secure training centre is missing the point. Hassockfield is one of the four private jails for children. While there has been a reduction in the number of times painful restraint has been used, it is still used on average around 42 times a month.

Ofsted also suggests that further clarification has been given to staff about the use of restraint for the maintenance of good order and discipline.
