The news follows reports of job freezes and redundancies among midwives,health visitors and nurses in community services during the past sixmonths.
Thousands of job cuts have also been announced in hospitals.
Though NHS trusts have identified the extent of job losses, many haveyet to announce officially where they will be made. However, ChildrenNow has discovered that funding cuts are already threatening children'sfrontline services.
One West Midlands primary care trust is threatening to cut 3mfrom children's services according to Paul Ennals, chief executive ofthe National Children's Bureau. And another trust is seeking to slash26,000 from child and adolescent mental health services.
"We're talking about big figures," said Ennals. "Several of our membersare telling us about significant cuts in community-based services suchas mental health and other children's health services."
