I am an experienced health visitor and midwife in Scotland, currently working in a hugely busy and understaffed labour suite in a hospital. I breastfed my own children and am a keen promoter of breastfeeding.
I do not seek to deny any of the experiences of the mothers but I was disappointed at the negative slant running through the piece. I found it pretty unpalatable to read "Hideous dragon of a midwife" as a banner headline - would you describe social or other care workers in this way without recourse?
I sympathise utterly with the plight of the mothers who were not sufficiently supported, but the lack of any positive balancing stories feels deeply unfair.
