What are they doing? Students are being encouraged to challenge the stereotypes associated with different types of careers and industries as part of Leicester College's Aim Higher "Breaking the Mould" project.

The initiative exists to help students access new opportunities by allowing them to explore a wide range of potential career options.

What does it involve? Year 9 students from various Leicester schools are taking part in taster workshops in hospitality, graphic design, uniformed public services, multimedia, and hair and beauty, to experience learning subjects they might not normally consider.

What do the pupils think? Nitasha Dhanjal, a student from Riverside Community College who took part in a hospitality taster session, says: "I learned how to make pasta from scratch, the workshop was fun."

And the professionals? Leicester College student recruitment officer Pratibha Mistry says the college is planning to run more sessions and involve more schools in the Breaking the Mould project. She says: "The students at the schools thoroughly enjoyed their workshops and came away with a better idea of the career paths they could choose when they leave school."
