How did the library service get involved? As part of the 80 Reads challenge, the library service organised a storytelling event at Acorn Venture Farm in Kirkby, inviting under-fives and their parents to come along. The children were treated to a story about the animals on the farm and introduced to Tracey the tarantula and Trudy the rat.
What else happened? Families were encouraged to get involved in the challenge through their local libraries. But there was also a lot of activity in Knowsley's children's centres. Other storytelling events included a trip to Knowsley's National Wildflower Centre where children took part in a lucky dip of words. One children's centre also held a pyjama party sleepover, complete with hot chocolate, marshmallows and bedtime stories. Young children took it in turns to each read a line of the story while the rest of the children were taught actions to bring the story to life.
