Nurseries in Knowsley ban sweets and cakes

1 min read Early Years
Sweets and cakes are strictly off the menu for nurseries in Knowsley, even on children's birthdays, thanks to the council's early years healthy living pilot.

The Pre-School Nutrition Project is based on a nutrition training course and programme of support for early years caterers and staff called the Early Years Healthy Eating Guidelines. The course focuses on helping early years settings to reduce the levels of sugar, saturated fat and salt in the food they provide to children. It also includes reducing portion sizes and the use of stock cubes and gravy in meals, and having a rule that says no sweets or cakes on birthdays.
