New approach needed to engage young people in politics, says Demos

Young people are in danger of being turned off by politics due to an emphasis on short-term vote-winning rather than long-term policy making, according to a new report by think tank Demos.

Published yesterday, the report, called Anatomy of Youth, claimed that young people and the government must enter into "an entirely different conversation about the future than can normally be heard during an election debate".

The report poses questions that parties should be answering if they are to appeal to the next generation of voters. These include "Will a low-carbon economy make for a more equal society?" and "What are my digital rights?"
