I am making decisions that will affect the rest of my life. I have always been drawn to a career in medicine by a want to work with people in an academic environment, doing something practical and I think I would enjoy the hands-on learning experience. But medicine is no easy choice.
Over 2,000 people apply for only 200 places at each university - the thought of the application process makes my head spin: straight As; work experience; personal statement; admissions test; interview.
This summer I did two weeks work experience in the local hospital. It was an eye-opener to say the least. The time I spent with patients was invaluable in learning about my - fingers crossed - future career. My placement only convinced me further that I want to study medicine. University will be a new chapter in my life; I am excited and about what the future will bring.
