What does it mean? Ephebiphobia is essentially a fear of young people. It is commonly perceived by modern day academics and psychological experts as an irrational fear exacerbated by the media. Tanya Byron, clinical psychologist and general adviser to the government on anything related to children and young people, believes that the problem is not the children but the way they are negatively judged by society as a whole.

"Today in the media we hear phrases like 'broken Britain' and 'toxic childhood' being used almost daily and it is this attitude towards youth that makes attaining their aspirations an impossible dream," says Byron.
