Jargon buster - Youth Professional Status (YPS)

1 min read Youth Work
Where might you hear it? In a youth centre

What does it mean? YPS is a new device being introduced to develop the youth workforce and raise the status of the work. According to the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC), "it will not be a qualification, registration or licence, nor will it be a new type of role or worker". Essentially it is a new step on the career ladder for graduate youth workers.

To gain the status, workers will have to hold a degree, have a recognised professional qualification in a specialism within the youth workforce, have experience as a leader in the field, and hold the equivalent of a GCSE in English and maths at grade C or above.
