What does it mean? The QCF is the new system for recognising and accrediting vocational qualifications in the UK.
At present, it is difficult to understand the different types of qualification that learners hold. Under the QCF every qualification will be broken down into credits (one credit represents 10 hours, showing how much time it takes to complete) and levels ranging from Entry Level to Level 8. There are three sizes of qualification for each level: Award (1 to 12 credits), Certificate (13 to 36 credits) and Diploma (37 credits or more).
The new credit-based approach means that learners can build up their qualifications in small chunks if they choose to or even transfer between different qualifications.
