Jargon buster - Diploma gateways

1 min read Education
Where might you hear it? In schools and colleges

What does it mean? From September last year schools and colleges were able to deliver a new qualification to 14- to 19-year-olds called diplomas.

Not all schools and colleges were ready to deliver diplomas from last year and in order to assess their readiness any setting planning to deliver the diploma has had to go through an application process known as the diploma gateway. Schools and colleges are required to apply in partnership with each other and local training providers to ensure a partnership approach.

The gateways have occurred every autumn since 2006. They are designed to ensure that only the highest quality and best-equipped provision will be delivering the diploma.
