The first five of the 14 diplomas will launch in September 2008. The House of Commons' Education and Skills Committee will look into progress on developing the diplomas so far and into concerns that schools and colleges are not working sufficiently closely together.
Graham Lane, chair of the Engineering Diploma Development Partnership's steering group, said: "Some areas of the country are quite far advanced."
Consortia of schools and colleges have until 11 January to apply to become one of the first providers of diplomas in 2008.
The deadline for submissions to the inquiry is 8 January.
