What does it mean? EYPP stands for Empowering Young People Pilot. This is a £14.5m government initiative that forms part of Aiming High for Young People, the 10-year strategy designed to transform leisure opportunities, activities and support services for young people in England. Currently running in nine local authorities, the EYPP applies to 20,000 young people in each area aged 13 to 17 who are either in care, eligible for free school meals or both. It provides each young person with up to £40 a month to spend on activities such as theatre trips, sports, music, dance, drama, driving lessons and outdoor pursuits. Young people do not have direct access to funds, but are able to access activities, equipment and transport using funds paid to the provider, sometimes through the use of an opportunity card.
