Jargon Buster - Crypto boxes

1 min read Youth Justice
Where might you hear it? In a young offenders institution

What does it mean? The crypto boxes are part of an 18-month project to "wire up" youth justice. They are encryption devices - allowing information to be sent confidentially across the internet between young offender institutions as well as courts and other youth justice practitioners.

The boxes are in more than 200 sites across England and Wales, and the Youth Justice Board (YJB) claims the new network will allow youth justice professionals to share information as and when required in order to make better informed decisions.

The new approach to information is managed by the YJB's Wiring Up Youth Justice programme. It was established in a bid to drag the youth justice system into the 21st century via new information sharing technology.
