Yet, in all honesty, Her Majesty's London home didn't quite fulfil my dream-like expectations. I had imagined a fairy tale palace, bathed in gold, unicorns galloping in the gardens and a room made up of chocolate. But there were no such enchantments.
After waking up to reality, I couldn't help but notice how beautiful Buckingham Palace actually is. Once inside, we were greeted by smiling palace officials and introduced to the professional poets who listened with interest to our poems before giving constructive feedback.
Buckingham Palace wasn't exactly the Willie Wonka dreamland that young children envisage. It was more than that.
I feel privileged to have taken part in this wonderful event. - Do you know a child or young person with a story to tell? Call Nancy Rowntree on 020 8267 4918, email nancy.rowntree@haymarket.com.
