On 11 Million Takeover Day I experienced a day in the life of the children's commissioner Sir Al Aynsley-Green - and it was completely different to what I expected.

I had thought we would be doing lots of paperwork and having discussions about issues to do with children. But on the day we dealt with more hands-on work, interacting with young people of all ages. The youngest we saw were two-year-olds at a pre-school, but we also saw some older children taking over at the Manchester United Foundation.

The day did not live up to my expectations, but I think if we had been doing paperwork and giving speeches, I would not have paid as much attention to his work. I also thought Sir Al would be more involved in his own scheduling, but his days are normally organised by others.
