Interview: Providing a united voice - Steve Broach, campaignmanager, Every Disabled Child Matters

2 mins read
Most new campaigns face an uphill struggle. They spend years gathering signatures and haranguing politicians to get their cause on the Government's and the media's agenda.

So it's surprising that the Every Disabled Child Matters campaign, officially launched a month ago, has already won over key decisionmakers. Not least chancellor Gordon Brown's right hand man and theTreasury's economic secretary Ed Balls.

"We've exceeded our wildest expectations in getting disabled childrenmade a priority within the Comprehensive Spending Review," admits SteveBroach, the campaign's manager. "The support Ed Balls has shown has beenfantastic, but it's just the start of a process. We now need to workwith the Government to make sure the outcome of the review is betterservices for disabled children."

The Every Disabled Child Matters campaign is the brainchild of fourcharities that work with disabled children - Contact A Family, theCouncil for Disabled Children, Mencap and the Special EducationalConsortium.
