Inspections: Sector prepares for integrated regime

Children's professionals must keep a sense of perspective at this time of enormous upheaval, warned Denise Platt, the chair of the new Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI).

Speaking ahead of the commission's official launch, Platt acknowledged that staff got "very defensive" when they were pilloried.

But she added: "Many places are doing well. It's about getting more consistency."

Inspections will be streamlined, with work on integration having gone on for nearly a year.

The CSCI comes into being on 1 April. It will combine the work of the Social Services Inspectorate, the Audit Commission and the National Care Standards Commission.
