Social Care News: Inspection - CSCI report to help children'sdirectors

Senior children's professionals will benefit from a major report by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) on improving outcomes for children in need.

"This report is designed to help directors of children's servicesunderstand the current situation and what they need to do to ensure thatnew arrangements in services respond to children in need," said AverilNottage, national director of service inspection at the CSCI.

It includes examples of best practice and checklists for seniorprofessionals.

It is designed to help new directors with an education backgroundunderstand the complex range of children's social care services.

The report summarises the findings from 69 inspections over the last twoyears. It reveals that the overall services have improved and childrenwithin the child protection system are safeguarded more effectively.However, this has affected the capacity of councils to support otherchildren in need.
