Launched in 2005, the Rochdale Children's Council was set up to act asthe first area-wide representative body for children in the borough,which already had four district children's forums. A key remit of thechildren's council is to ensure the views of these forums arerepresented across the wider community.
Membership of the council is open to all eight- to 13-year-olds inRochdale.
The line-up includes forum members, who are mainly 10-year-olds, andrepresentatives of traditionally hard-to-reach groups such aslooked-after children and those with disabilities. The council also hasfour junior mayors who represent each of the districts and carry outcivic duties.
