The move comes after difficulties around information sharing were highlighted by professionals attending a seminar involving the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the General Teaching Council for England, and the General Social Care Council.
Susan Aitkenhead, professional advisor for children's nursing at the NMC, said the seminar, held to develop the Every Child Matters agenda, had shown professionals often attributed difficulties to different codes of practice.
The three organisations have recently started work to look at common ground within the codes, and the regulators are in discussions about the form their "philosophy of collaboration" will take.
Aitkenhead said it would aim to establish that the child was at the centre of care and that all three regulators were "coming from the same place".
