Professional bodies could face axe

1 min read
The government is considering slimming down the number of registration and regulatory bodies for the children's workforce, CYP Now can reveal.

If adopted, the plan could see bodies such as the General TeachingCouncil and General Social Care Council replaced by a single bodycovering the whole sector.

CYP Now understands the idea was floated last week in a meeting of theexpert group set up by ministers to improve work-force integration.

In an echo of the changes that saw Ofsted take over the inspection ofchildren's services from a range of other inspectorates, the proposalcould result in fewer national-level bodies overseeing the children andyoung people's workforce.

CYP Now also understands that the government has put together a draftvision for the children's workforce in 2020. The one-page documentsignals that the government wants the workforce to become moreprofessional.
